Last Call for Savings: Snag Your Clean Energy Tax Credits Before They Disappear

Don’t Miss Your Chance to Save Big on Clean Energy Upgrades—Before Time Runs Out

If you’ve been considering adding solar panels to your roof, investing in an electric vehicle (EV), or making energy-efficient upgrades to your home, now is the moment to act. Many of the generous federal tax incentives that have helped make these sustainable choices more affordable are set to expire soon—some as early as this fall.

These clean energy credits, established under a policy bill signed into law during the Trump administration, are being phased out this year. And while some programs will stick around a bit longer, others are quickly vanishing—potentially leaving thousands of dollars in savings on the table if you don’t move fast.

Here’s what you need to know to lock in those benefits while they’re still available.

Electric Vehicle Incentives

For those eyeing an electric vehicle, the clock is ticking. To qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500 on new EVs or $4,000 on eligible used ones, you must buy or lease the vehicle before September 30.

But don’t just head to any dealership—make sure the seller is registered with the IRS to process the tax credit at the time of purchase. That means the discount can be applied right away, lowering the cost on the spot instead of waiting for your tax return next year. The IRS has published a map of approved dealers to help guide your search.

Buying New: What Qualifies?

To receive the full $7,500 credit on a new electric vehicle, your purchase must meet several key criteria:

  • The car must be manufactured in the United States
  • The sticker price must be below $55,000 (or under $80,000 for SUVs and pickup trucks)
  • Your income must be $150,000 or less as an individual, or $300,000 or less for couples filing jointly

Currently, only about two dozen vehicle models meet these eligibility requirements. So if you’re planning to make the switch to electric, it’s worth checking the latest list of approved models as soon as possible.

More to Come

While EV credits are among the most urgent, other clean energy incentives—such as tax breaks for home solar systems, heat pumps, and insulation—may continue a bit longer, though reductions could still be on the horizon.

If you’re ready to make your home or vehicle more energy efficient, don’t wait. Acting now could mean locking in thousands of dollars in savings—and making a smart move for the planet and your wallet.
